WORDLE STATS & FACTS

Repeated Letters Are Everywhere

565 answers — 30.9% — contain at least one repeated letter. Almost one in three puzzles. If your guesses always use five different letters, nearly a third of all games are unwinnable by construction.

251 answers have an adjacent double. The most common:

LL49 words
OO45 words
EE39 words
SS27 words
FF16 words
TT14 words

And 13 answers have used the same letter three times: DADDY, EERIE, EMCEE, ERROR, FLUFF, GEESE, MOMMY, MUMMY, NANNY, POPPY, PUPPY, SASSY and SISSY.

The Vowel Distribution

Vowels (A/E/I/O/U)AnswersShare
0 vowels60.3%
1 vowel56130.7%
2 vowels1,06458.3%
3 vowels19210.5%
4 vowels30.2%

The sweet spot is clearly two vowels. The six vowel-less answers all lean on Y: CRYPT, GLYPH, MYRRH, NYMPH, SHYLY, TRYST. Only three answers ever had four vowels: AUDIO, EERIE, QUEUE.

First and Last Letters

S is king of the opening slot — 14.8% of all answers start with it, ahead of C (8.7%) and B (7.5%). No answer has ever started with X, and only two started with Z (ZEBRA, ZESTY).

E dominates the final slot at 19.8%, followed by Y (13.9%) — surprisingly strong for a letter that's weak overall — then T (11.3%) and R (8.5%).

The famous plural trap: only 1.5% of answers end in S, and simple plurals essentially never appear. If you're about to guess one, don't.

The Rare Letters

J21 words · 1.2%
Q27 words · 1.5%
Z30 words · 1.6%
X32 words · 1.8%
V120 words · 6.6%

J is the rarest letter in Wordle history — just 21 appearances (BANJO, EJECT, EMOJI, ENJOY, FJORD…). And in every single Q answer, the Q is followed by U — the QU rule has never been broken.

Word Families That Keep Coming Back

Some endings are minefields. Seven answers share the -ATCH pattern (BATCH, CATCH, HATCH, LATCH, MATCH, PATCH, WATCH), and six each share -IGHT, -OUND and -OWER. When you hit one of these with four greens, guess a word that packs several candidate first letters instead of testing them one by one — our strategy guide covers exactly this trap.

One More for the Road

36 answers have their letters in perfect alphabetical order — words like ABBEY, ADEPT, AGLOW and ALLOY. None has ever been in reverse alphabetical order… yet.
